Rest and Re-energize

Fitness Tip: Rest and Re-energize – Not enough sleep can dramatically affect your current and future health. While you sleep your body is recovering and resting from all the things you have done during your day. Your serotonin levels are brought back in line, your muscles relax, and your mind is allowed to clear itself in preparation for the next day’s events. If you are not getting enough rest, you will begin to notice it in a physical way. While there is no perfect number in terms of hours of sleep, 8 hours should be your target each and every night.

Flavor for Fitness

Fitness Tip: Flavor for Fitness – Eating food that has no flavor makes it very easy to fall off your healthy meal plan. Food doesn’t have to be fattening and bad for you to taste good, so spice it up. Here are some great flavoring alternatives that don’t add bad calories to your healthy meal plan when used with moderation.
a. Mustard
b. Salsa
c. Flavored Vinegars – Balsamic, Raspberry, Red wine, etc
d. Teriyaki or Low Sodium Soy Sauce
e. Any type of your favorite hot sauce
f. Herbs – Basil, Dill, Tarragon, Rosemary, etc.
g. Spices – Cinnamon, Cloves, Curry Powder, etc.

Heart Smart Training

Fitness Tip: Heart Smart Training - Like the ever-mounting hits on tobacco, on the flip side, its nemesis, exercise, continues to attract a growing crowd. Reports by the American Heart Association and others in Club Business International suggest that heart attack patients who exercise regularly had a 40 percent lower risk of death as well as a 50 percent reduction in succumbing to cardiovascular disease after five years as compared to those who didn’t exercise.

Exercise of the day: Ball Band Thigh Blaster - The Ball Band Thigh Blaster is the ultimate quad workout with the use of your fitness bands and exercise ball.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Fitness Tip: Body Mass Index (BMI) – BMI is considered a more accurate tool than body weight alone to assess overall health and risks associated with being overweight. Lean body mass (muscle) weighs the same as fat, but takes up 2/3rds less space on your body. So you can see why a person with a lower BMI or lower Body Fat % looks slimmer than a person of the same height and weight but with a larger % of body fat makeup. Remember that BMI alone should only be used as a guideline and is not 100% accurate. Make sure that you are getting your body fat % measured either using an impedance scale at home or get the help of a fitness professional utilizing body fat skin fold tests to get the best accuracy of your overall body fat % and health.
